Mérida was founded by Augustus as Emerita Augusta, in a perfect location to control the Guadiana River (River Anas at the time). It has got plenty of wonders to visit, including a roman circus, columbarius, two aqueducts, one of the best roman museums in Spain and a reconstructed theater.
